Goals: January & February

I’ve had an amazing start to 2020. This month has opened so many different avenues in my life. Normally, I write a Buddhism & Meditation update, I decided to do a monthly goal review and setting my goals for the next month post - there has to be an easier way to say that?!

Writing

I’m delighted that I started participating in Scribophile again. It’s been super rewarding. I finally had the guts to put Chapter 1 of Silvercore up to be critiqued. I wrote Chapter 2 and that’s up there too. It’s crazy, I didn’t think I’d be able to write the second chapter so fast, especially since the first chapter took me a year to write!

I studied show and tell and wrote a blog post on it. I was surprised to do that as I was keeping away from the “how to” part of a writer’s blog. I’m still not interested in doing a “how to” but I do need a place to work out my own writing and study the craft. This site is as good a place of any.

I’ve been critiquing pieces on Scrib every week and I’m now helping other writers with a couple of projects. This is great because it develops my own critical eye - when I work on my project I should catch the problems before I post the piece.

I’ve managed to write a poem every week in the poetry group I’m in. And I’m learning about the different types of poems and am being exposed to different poets - modern and classic.

Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and start my own group on Scrib, which I’m really happy about. It’s slow going and I’m not 100% sure of what I’m doing, but sure that’s how most of the awesome opportunities begin!

Reading

Slow going with the reading. I’ve been reading L’etranger for the last month. I have one chapter to read so I should have a review up shortly. It’s the French version which explains my slow pace and the book is a hard read. Not in it’s language, the main character is difficult to sympathise with and so it makes the story go on forever, even though it’s a short book. More on that in my review.

Meditation & Buddhism

I’ve been a very bad woman this month! I meditated 6 times and read 6 passages. I know, I know, the writing fever took over. I have to get back into it because I’ve started to have bad dreams again. The meditation and learning about Buddhism definitely helps calm my brain and I sleep better.

Sport & Health

I had a bad bacterial infection which took me out of action for nearly two weeks. I’m just off the antibiotics and am giving my body a few days to really be sure the infection is gone. Then I’ll be back running and going to the gym twice a week.

Life Goals

I got my French drivers license! I’m finally driving in France. I am over the moon. I have so much more freedom now. And it was one of the main goals between my boyfriend and I for this year. To have it crossed off so early, is great.

Scribophile has taught me how important it is to write down my goals, I will be writing these down in my bujo as well. As I said at the top of the post, I’m really happy with my accomplishments in January. I feel good about myself and my life and that’s the best way to start the year.
