Goals: February & March

Goals: February & March

I’ve posted about my February goals in this post.

February Review

Writing

I wrote 3,222 words and finished writing chapter 3 and 4. Both chapters are up on Scribophile - the challenge to not edit them is on. I keep getting trapped in answering questions that the critters come up with. Part of me wants to fix up the chapters before I carry on and another part wants to keep writing until I get this draft out. It’s confusing and frustrating at times. For the moment, I plan on continuing the draft - no matter what state it’s in.

I wrote 5 blog posts this month - not as many as I would have liked but better than none. I started two WikidPad’s: Series bible and SPaG bible (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar). I bought 3 books that will help me improve my writing skills: New Hart’s Rules, Fowler’s Modern English and Usage and Abusage.

On Scribophile I gave 25 crits. I am overjoyed with that. Before this month I could only ever manage 1 or 2 crits per week. It is a tough thing to juggle but it has its advantages. I’m learning so much off of other people’s writing.

Reading

Finally, I finished L’étranger. I started reading 2 new books: Approaching the Dhamma - which I’m reading essay by essay - and Gods and Fighting Men by Lady Gregory. After L’étranger, I realised the importance of reading a few books at the same time. I need to give my brain a break.

Meditation & Buddhism

I have successfully meditated 20 out of the 29 days in February. I got a free subscription to Calm, and I’ve been listening to Jeff Warren’s “How to meditate” series. It has changed me. I feel so much better and in control of my emotions. I’m aware that I can “pop” out of the thoughts and take a step back, breath, and then decide on an action. It feels good to take 10 minutes of my morning and focus on my breath. Then being able to access this moment throughout the day. It helps. I still mess up - anger is an emotion that takes over. I’m no where near where I’d like to be but the fact is I can see the improvements.

I finished 2 chapters in The Buddha’s Words and read 21 out of the 29 days. The seventh and eighth chapter are starting to speak to me. I’m looking forward to setting out time in the future to analyse those passages a bit more.

Sport & Health

I’ve cut down on the running because of my hip and ankle problem. The running makes it much more painful. I ran once this month which I’m not that happy with would have preferred to put in a second run. I went to my gym 3 times - also not that impressed with that. I’ve to start to rearrange my week better. However, the awesome thing is: I went swimming twice! I’m delighted with that as I’m quite scared of swimming. I’ve nearly drowned a couple times in my life. Even being able to float on my back and drift in the water is important to me. It’s actually a nice place to meditate in too.
